ENO CH-2 Chorus Pedal Review

ENO CH-2 Chorus Effect Pedal

Don’t be fooled by the size of the ENO CH-2 Chorus Effect Pedal. It may be mini, but it covers a wide range of chorus sounds from 80s lush to modern, more subtle tones!

It’s a great addition to any pedalboard thanks to its tiny size! And before you discount chorus pedals as something from the 80s, keep an open mind as there are still plenty of chances to use these sorts of tones today.

Come with me as we check out the ENO CH-2 Pedal in detail. You just might be surprise!

Description

The ENO CH-2 Chorus is a mini effect pedal with four controls, a footswitch, LED, two jack sockets, and power. I believe that this pedal is a clone of the BOSS CH-1. Just it’s yours for a quarter of the price and half the size!

For those who didn’t live through the 80s! Chorus is when your guitar signal is double, and then a short delay is applied to the second signal, which is also slightly modulated in pitch.

And while we might not use those types of chorus sounds often these days, some guitarists love a little touch of it on their clean tones to add some depth and remove some of the harshness present.

Build Quality: 9/10

This pedal has received my highest build quality for a few reasons. The jack sockets are screwed into the enclosure, meaning they’ll last longer, suffer more abuse, and are harder to damage.

Due to the size, there’s no battery compartment. The power jack on the top is fixed to the case. Again this adds longevity to the pedal and is another nice touch.

The small controls aren’t fixed to the enclosure and so might be readily damaged. That said, they are low enough to not get easily broken, so I’m not too worried. The main rate control is large and fixed in place.

Controls and Features: 7/10

The pedal is true bypass, ensuring a cleaner signal path when not in use. You’ll notice it has four controls Volume, Depth, EQ, and Rate.

Volume control, in my opinion, is more of an overall mix control rather than providing an overall volume boost or cut.

The depth knob controls how much effect you would like to have.

The EQ control allows you to get a more vintage chorus sound when set lower and more glassy sounds when turned up.

And finally, the Rate control is how fast or slow you want the chorus effect to be. It’s really reactive and has plenty of scope.

Tones and Sounds: 7/10

Don’t be fooled by the size. You can pull out a range of chorus sounds that are ideal no matter the situation.

If you’re after darker vintage chorus sounds, keep the depth and the EQ set fairly low. For a more modern chorus sound, simply crank the EQ control.

A feature I like is the rate control. It has a really wide scope and allows you to go from subtle chorus tones to faux Leslie sounds when on full. Ideal for playing soul music or jazz.

My basic sound is to have the Volume on full. The Depth set at 3 o’clock. EQ set 9 o’clock. And the Rate control set at just over halfway. I find these settings give me a pleasing chorus sound that’s balanced but isn’t overpowering.

Overall: ENO CH-2 Chorus Effect Pedal Review

Rating: 8/10

Overall, I really like the ENO CH-2 Chorus pedal. It sounds superb with a wide range of tones and is small enough to add to any pedalboard.

I don’t get having the volume and the depth controls. To me, they are both the same! So, I’m slightly confused as to why you might need both of them!

I can understand the guitarists who want a bigger pedal that allows for battery power. That said, I can’t fault it for the player who wants to add a chorus effect now and again.

This pedal is great if you play functions and need to cover many different musical eras without breaking the bank or taking up loads of pedalboard space.

While it sounds different from the number of chorus pedals I’ve had and used over the years, including an ARION SCH-1, the ENO CH-2 should be on your list if you’re looking for an affordable, versatile solution.
